Shri Meenakshi-Sundaraswarar Temple




Shri Meenakshi-Sundaraswarar Temple is located on the banks of Bharathapuzha at Chokkanathapuram Village near Palakkad. The place is one of the ancient villages where migrated Tamilans settled. Built around AD 1865, the temple faces to the east. The presiding deities are Lord Shiva as Sundareswarar and his consort Goddess Parvati as Meenakshi Amman. The other name of the Lord is Chokkanathar.

Belief is that by performing Mrityunjaya Homa to the Lord one attains health. Other deities in this temple are Lord Ganesh, Lord Muruga, Lord Dakshinamoorthy, Chandikeswaran, Kalabhairava and the Navagrahas.
