Earlier known as Mallinatheshwar Temple, Shri Ganapati Temple is an old temple located at Mallapur in
Uttara Kannada District in
Karnataka.
This temple was dedicated to Mallinath or Shiva during the reign of Harihara, the king of Vijayanagar in 1304. Later an idol of Lord Ganesh, obtained from a village named Masur near
Kumta, was installed here. Hence the temple came to be known as Ganapati temple. The Sabha Mantap (main hall) and Chandrashala (circular or horseshoe-shaped arch) were constructed in 1949.
The temple celebrates Vinayaka Chaturthi in a grand manner.
