Shri Chockanathar Swamy Temple




Shri Chockanathar Swamy Temple is an ancient temple located on Sirkazhi Road at Thirumangaicheri in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur District. This temple was built by a Pandya king, under the wish of his queen Mangayarkarasee. The presiding deity of the temple is Chockanathar Swamy. Goddess Shri Soundaranayaki is seen by the side of Shri Chockanathar Swamy. The temple was in a totally dilapidated condition, and is now under the management of a Trust that is working on renovating the temple.

This temple is renowned for its temple architecture. The major attraction is the ancient rare architecture of a brick arch mandapam, unsupported by beams.

Thanjavur Junction Railway Station and Tiruchirapalli Airport are the nearest railway station and airport.
