Shri Bhoodath Alwar was the second Vaishnava saint of the three Mudal
Alwars (others being
Shri Poigai Alwar and
Shri Pei Alwar).
He was born near
Mahabalipuram in
Tamil Nadu. It is believed that he was born in a blue Lilly. He is considered as the amsa (reincarnation) of the Gada (mace) of
Lord Vishnu.
From childhood, Sri Bhoodath Alwar had immense devotion to Lord Vishnu and spent his life praising the fame of the Lord.
‘Irandaam Thiruvandadhi' (Second Thiruvandadhi) is his famous composition and is an ode of exquisite literary charm and depth.
