Shoiru is an indigenous basket used by the fishermen belonging to the Meitei community of
Manipur. This basket, woven from bamboo splits, is used for holding the fish. This particular basket, which has a broad base, tapers towards the top ending in a narrow mouth. It contains two loops at the rim serving as handles. The basket is lifted using an oar, whose narrow end is inserted inside the loops, and is carried by supporting the oar on the shoulder.
