Shivalik Deluxe Express




Started on June 9, 1996, Shivalik Deluxe Express is a special luxury train runnnig between Kalka and Shimla. (Shivalik is a hill range on the Himalayas.) Run by the Northern Railways, it is popularly called 'narrow gauge Shatabdi.' It has only one stop at Barog and has a sitting capacity of 120 passengers. Specially meant for the elite class and the tourist, the train also has an attached tourist coach called 'Shivalik Palace.'

The Express offers individual posh cabins for couples. Snacks are given at the start of the journey. Coaches are equipped with wall to wall carpet, wide glass windows, kitchen ware, reversible cushioned chairs, music system, tube lights, tables for meal and improved toilet facilities. There is a microphone and an alarm bell for communication with the guard and driver.

Shivalik Deluxe Express runs twice every day. It connects the Howarh-Kalka mail for passengers going to Shimla. The fare of Rs. 340/- includes breakfast in up direction and dinner in down direction. Reservation can be made in any computerized railway reservation office.

Train number 241: Kalka to Shimla, leaves Kalka at 05:30 hrs.
Train number 242: Shimla to Kalka, leaves Shimla at 17:30 hrs.
