Shitla Saptami Fair is a famous fair celebrated at Hamirsar Lake, in
Bhuj,
Kutch District. This two day fair is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of
Lord Krishna. The first day is celebrated as ‘Shitla Saptami’ or ‘saatam’ while the second day is celebrated as
Janmashtami or ‘aatham’. On the second day, processions are conducted for breaking the ‘mataki’ (pot) hanging overhead with milk products and some money. This is done in memory of Krishna’s childhood, when he was at ‘gokul’.
