Sheer Chai is a very popular beverage taken by the Kashmiris. This tea, perhaps adapted from
Ladakh and Tibet, is a salted tea with cream, which has pahari tea leaves, soda bi carb, salt, water and milk. It is very popular among Muslims and to an extent among Kashmiri pundits, who drink it especially after meals by adding green cardamoms, poppy seeds, ‘malavi’ (skim of boiled milk) and almond kernels. They believe that it helps digestion after a hearty meal.
