Shathi Osha is a major Hindu ritual of fasting in
Orissa. It is dedicated to Goddess Shathi. Shathi or Shasthi is the powerful goddess who controls the fate and welfare of children.
It is believed that the goddess writes the child’s future on the child’s forehead on the sixth day after its birth. She is worshipped by the mother on the sixth day of Bhadrava month (August-September) for the welfare of the child.
