Sharda Temple is situated in the heart of the Vidya Vihar campus, at Birla Institute of Technology. This 20th century temple was built by the Birla family of industrialists. The temple is dedicated to
Goddess Saraswati. It follows the north Indian or the Indo-Aryan scheme of temple construction. The temple stands on 70 pillars and has a garbha graha (sanctum sanctorum), pradakshinapatha (circumambulatory path),
antarala (intermediate chamber) and ardha mandapa (entrance portico). Situated on a 7 ft high basement, the temple has an area of about 25,000 sq ft. The shikhara (pyramidal tower) has a height of about 110 ft. The ceiling of the sanctum has magnificent carvings. The interior of the temple is adorned with nice figures. The exterior of the temple is also decorated with designs and figures of philosophers, saints and scientists.
