Sharada Devi Temple, also known as Sringeri Math, is located at Sringeri in Chikmagalur District, on the banks of the Tunga River. It was established by Shri
Sankaracharya. The deity is installed on a Shri Chakra (
yantra). It is one of the Sphatika-lingas which is said to have been given to Sankaracharya by Lord Shiva.
Sringeri is located 85 km east of Udupi and 100 km northeast of Mangalore. It is 335 km from Bangalore. There are buses plying to and from Mysore, Hassan and Bangalore.
