Shanmukhanathan Temple




Shanmukhanathan Temple is located at Kunnakudi near Madurai. The temple is situated on a hill and can be reached through a flight of steps. The presiding deity of the temple is the six faced Shanmugar mounted on his peacock and flanked by Valli and Deivayanai. There is an ornamental mandapam to the south of the sanctum. At the foot of the hills are the cave temples that date back to the eighth century. The main festivals are the annual festivals celebrated during Thaipoosam and Panguni Uttiram. Kunnakudi is located at a distance of 14 km from Karaikudi.
