Situated in
Allahabad District, Shankargarh is a remote town famous for its silica mines. Three-fourths of the town’s land area is rocky and is completely devoid of cultivation. This town, close to
Madhya Pradesh State border, is about 40 km south-west of
Allahabad.
Recently found caves, belonging to Upper Paleolithic era, is the main attraction just outside the town. Garwha, another place near Shankargarh, is famous for its ruined temples and carved stone pillars of the Gupta period.
Shankargarh, on the National Highway 76, is well linked to the rest of the state. Nearby towns are Bara, Bargarh and Sohagi. Shankargarh Railway Station is on the Manikpur-Allahabad rail route of Central Railways. Varanasi Airport is the nearest airport.
