Shad Pyllun is a traditional dance performed in
Meghalaya. It involves a large group of men and women.
The women follow slow movements, taking three steps forward on the toes and returning back on heels. The men dance faster in a series of forward and backward movements, slowly covering up the distance between them and the women. The men, on nearing the women, move back in a quick movement to their original position.
A traditional brush called ‘sympiah,’ is held in their hands. It is held high, when the men bend towards the front, and waved while bending backwards. The overall movement in the dance follows a circular pattern.
