Shaar Harahamim Synagogue

Situated in the centre of the Jewish locality of Mumbai (on Samuel Street in Mandvi), the Shaar Harahamim Synagogue is Mumbai's oldest synagogue. It was built in 1796 by Commandant Samaji Hasaji (Samuel Ezekiel), a Bene Israeli. It was constructed in memory of his narrow escape from death after being captured as prisoner in the Second Anglo-Mysore War. Sabbath day services are conducted here regularly.
