Semmeninatheswarar Temple




Tirukkanoor is a shivastalam where Semmeninatheswarar Temple is located. The temple is situated just half a km from the Kollidam River. The temple has a 3 tiered rajagopuram and a single prakaram. Sambandar is believed to have visited this shrine. The speciality of the temple is that the sanctum is illuminated by the rays of the sun for a period of 3 days in the month of Chithirai (March-April) . Legend has it that Lord Shiva appeared in front of Partvati as a column of fire. Inscriptions that date back to the 13th century are found in the temple. The temple can be approached from Budalur by traveling 7 km.
