Established in 1995 under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute is a memorial for the eminent film maker Satyajit Ray. The Institute has been set up at the national level to cater to the needs of film-lovers in the country. The Institute offers 3 year diploma course in Film Direction, Motion Picture Photography, Editing, and Sound Recording.
The Institute has a separate acting and direction wing, editing and sound recording wing, library, auditorium and preview theatre, recording studios, floors for film and television shooting, open air theatre and an administrative block. It is equipped with modern and highly sophisticated sound recording instruments, editing machines, cameras for cinematography and videography and a film processing laboratory.
