Satthi Mutram is a highly revered shrine, situated near
Darasuram,
Thanjavur District of
Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity here is Shivakkozhundeeswara (
Lord Shiva). An image of Lord Shiva and Parvati in embrace which is associated with the legend is enshrined in the temple.
This ancient shrine is one of the Shivasthalam situated near
Patteeswaram ('Pazhayarai'), the erstwhile capital of Cholas.
The temple boasts a magnificent Rajagopuram with 2 prakarams. The Nataraja shrine and the Sarabeswara shrine are of much importance here. Inscriptions from the period of Rajadiraja Chola II, Kulottunga Chola III, and the Vijayanagar Emperors are found here.
The annual Brahmotsavam (April-May), Navratri and Ratha Saptami are the major festival celebrated amidst much pomp and splendor.
