Satdhara is a historical place located in the
Vidisha District of
Madhya Pradesh, about 30 km north of
Bhopal. This place has two stupas. The word Satdhara literally means 'seven streams'. Around 34 stupas dating from Mauryan period and fourteen monasteries are found here. Few of the stupas and monasteries are restored under the support of UNESCO. Among the several stupas, striking one is stupa 1. It is about 13 m high with a medhi (broad circumambulatory path) around the base. Toranas are also present. Besides stupas and monasteries, the remains of apsidal temples posturing inscriptions dating back to second century are also found.
Satdhara is around 11 km west of Sanchi.
