Saroornagar Lake is one major water-bodies lying on the outskirts of
Hyderabad. It is situated to the east of the city. This lake is believed to have been built in 1624.
The lake originally occupied about 180 acres of land. However with the onset of modern life and the subsequent pumping of sewage and waste into the lake, the submergence area has been reduced to 63 acres. To deal with this problem, the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority launched a major conservation project in 1993 to revive and beautify the lake. Under this project numerous sewage processing plants have been setup.
