Sao Joao is the feast of St John, a Baptist, celebrated throughout
Goa. It is held on 24th June. The newly wed sons-in-law celebrate this festival in their mothers-in-law's house. The mother presents her daughter a basket full of fruits on this occasion.
The highlight is a procession of the young men dressed in crowns of leaves, carrying Feni bottles. Then they advance through the village, ultimately arriving at a well of pond into which they jump along with the sons-in-law.
