Santhana Gopala Homa is performed to appease Lord Vishnu - the preserver of the world – in order to gain healthy successors and all success in one’s ventures.
The hymns, 16 in number, glorifying Lord Vishnu as the Purusha - the primitive being with innumerable heads, eyes and feet - are chanted. It also explains the occurrence of different species from his various limbs.
It is believed that Santhana Gopala Homa is same as that of the Putra Kameshti Yagna depicted in the Ramayana.
