Sant Mirabai, one of the longest laterite sculptures in India, is located at Ancestral Goa in
South Goa District. This sculpture, measuring 14 m by 5 m, depicts saint Mirabai singing in praise of
Lord Krishna. She is pictured holding an
ektara in her hand while singing. Chiseled by a renowned artist named Maendra Jocelino Araujo, this monolithic creation attracts a large number of people. This sculpture is carved in the Greco-Roman style and the sculptor has made good use of the vast expanse of laterite available. Fullam, a special type of ornament worn by the Goan Hindu women, worn by Mirabai, and the lotus and a half sun on her ektara give the sculpture a typical Indian appeal.
