Sanja is a festival celebrated by unmarried girls belonging to the northwestern region of
Madhya Pradesh. A legendary girl called Sanja is worshipped on this day. This festival is celebrated for 16 days in the Hindu month of Ashwin (September-October).
On this occasion, girls draw figures and designs on mud walls smeared with cow dung. Everyday, new designs are drawn on the mud walls. In the evening, girls gather in front of the wall and sing traditional songs.
