The first book on music in Sanskrit, Sangeeta Ratnakara is the most considered and relevant book on Indian classical music. It is the work of Sarangadeva, a great composer and musician in the 13th century. The book has seven chapters with a common title Saptadhyayi. Six chapters deal with music and the remaining one with dance. Various classifications of ragas (the soul of Indian music) are mentioned in this book.
