Sanganer Painting

Sanganer Painting is a style of cloth painting and it derives its style from the process of hand block printing. This technique is practiced at Sanganer in Jaipur District, which is also famous for block printing.

The colors used in these paintings are similar to those used in the block printing process. The background is either white or black. White color is produced by bleaching, while black color is produced using a dye made of rusted iron. The patterns are created using block printing process. The colors inside the patterns are applied using a brush. Blue, green, yellow and pink are the preferred colors. Once the coloring is done, the cloth is given a wash and then dried.

Human figures in these paintings exhibit a young and lively look. The design theme usually centers around the legendary lovers like Radha-Krishna, Dhol-Maru and other famous royal couples. Some clothes also contain portraits. Paintings depicting the legendary poet Omar Khayyam are also popular.
