Sandhyakottu

Sandhyakottu is a percussion concert conducted in the temples at dusk. The beating on Chenda, Veekan Chenda, thimila, and chengala at dusk in front of the shrikovil after Deeparadhana, is known as Sandhyakottu. Sandhyakottu is sounded mostly on the days when Theeyattu or Mudiyettu are conducted.

Sandhyakottu is intended to inform the people about the ritual going to be conducted next. This had a particular significance in days of yore, when modern publicity methods were not available.
