Sand Art is a distinctive type of art form of
Puri in
Orissa. The art is usually depicted at the seashore and clean and fine grained sand mixed with water is the raw material used. Sculptures seen in the temples are reproduced by the artists.
The history of sand sculpture in Puri dates back to 14th century AD. Today, it is a popular art form in Orissa and some of the sand sculptures created by the artists have won accolades world over.
