Sama Chakeva is a unique festival celebrated in
Mithila in
Bihar. It is held during the winter season to denote the descent of Himalayan birds to the plains. It is celebrated after the arrival of these multi-colored birds.
During this festival, girls make the images of a variety of birds and beautify them in their own traditional ways. The festival is concluded with a desire that these birds return to this land in the coming year. Various ritual offerings are also performed.
The festival is also dedicated to brother-sister relationship.
