Salaya is located in
Jamnagar District of
Gujarat and lies along the coast of
Gulf of Kutch. It is around 72 km south-west of
Jamnagar, the district headquarters.
Salaya Port is an important port in the western part of India. The people of Salaya silently contribute to the country's export/import trade with hundreds of country-crafts plying along the Gujarat-Mumbai coastline ferrying goods to and from ports in the Middle East and East Africa. Salaya also plays an important part in the country’s energy needs. Crude oil pipeline from international waters first enters Salaya before heading for other directions in the country. Reliance has built one of the largest refineries in the country at Salaya.
Despite this, this town has never received the kind of attention it deserves from the government authorities. Basic infrastructure such as water, electricity and roads is in a pathetic state. Salaya is also lagging far behind in education.
Khambhalia Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Jamnagar Airport is the nearest airport.
