Sairawkher

Sairawkher is an indigenous bow of the Lushai tribe of Mizoram. Used for hunting birds and small animals, it is distinguished by its use of clay pellets instead of arrows. It is constructed from a strong beam of the ‘rawthing’ bamboo. The bow-string is made from the thin split of the ‘sairil’ bamboo.

The use of sairawkher requires some skill which is acquired from practice. The bow has to be twisted slightly to one side while shooting the clay pellets, to avoid the beam being hit by them.
