Sacred Heart is a 550 bedded hospital in Paynkulam, 5 km from
Thodupuzha. It aims at caring mentally ill patients. A team of trained staff supervised by caring sisters meets all the requirements of the patients.
Separate wards are there for male and female patients. A special unit functions for alcoholics and drug addicts. Psycho-education, counseling, aversion therapy, family therapy, yoga, meditation, awareness building classes and prayer therapy are the treatment methods employed here.
There is an aesthetic chapel to carry out spiritual activities. An annex building within the hospital accommodates the relatives of the patients coming from distant places. Psychiatric social workers consult patients in their homes upon request.
Located 3 km from the hospital is Rehabilitation and Long Care Center, which specializes in training patients through occupational therapy such as candle making, screen printing, fish farming and tailoring. It can shelter 210 patients.
