Sachhiah was a kind of customary due, which existed in
Mizoram, traditionally payable by the villagers to their chief. It was the share of animal hunted or trapped by a villager, which he gave to the village officials. It consisted of the animal’s left foreleg. If any one fails to pay the Sachhiah, the non payer was fined with forty rupees and salam (salute) as the compensation to the chief. It was paid to the chief of the village, to whom the hunter belonged.
