Roman Catholic Church at
Avur was founded in AD 1547 by Fr. John Venantius Bouchet. It was renovated in 1747. The Easter passion play is followed by a car festival in the summer. The Tamil Scholar Rev. Father Joseph Beschi (Veerama Munivar) has served in this church.
Avur is situated about 28 km from Pudukkottai.
