The Tawi River is a major left bank tributary of the river
Chenab. It originates from the lapse of Kali Kundi glacier, at an altitude of 12,145 feet above the sea level, in
Udhampur District. On its way, the river provides all the domestic, livestock and agricultural needs of the hilly tract of Jindrah and Bahu-Mahamaya ranges. The tawi, which is rich in mahaseer, cat fish, labio, and mahi, is a favored fishing spot as well.
Surawali Khad, Bainwali Khad, Tutanwali Khad, Tandewali Khad and Simbal Lahir Khad are some of its tributaries. The catchment area of the river up to Indian border is 2168 sq km. The total length is about 141 km.
