The
Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, located in
North Sikkim District of
Sikkim, attracts hordes of tourists owing to its ecosystem and some unique shrubs and trees. The prime attraction here is the Rhododendron nevium tree, which is termed as the state tree of Sikkim. This flowering tree grows only in this part of the state.
The tree comes to its full grandeur during the March-May period, when it is in full blossom. The flowers are smoky blue in color. Apart from the state tree, the sanctuary features about 40 different species belonging to the Rhododendron family.
