Established in 1995, Regional Museum of Natural History is situated on the banks of
Karanji Lake at the foothills of
Chamundi Hills in
Mysore. It was started with the objective of illustrating floral, faunal and geological wealth of the southern region of India.
Regional Museum of Natural History highlights the importance of conservation of natural resources through various exhibits. The museum displays biological diversity, life through the ages, ecology, conservation for development and man and the environment. Models of animals like elephant, blue whale, tigers, lions, deer, leopard and dinosaur are also displayed. Children have opportunities to handle, examine and study specimens in its discovery room. Mini-theater, a bioscience lab, a sound booth and bioscience computer room are other features.
