Ratijagas are night long sessions of devotional songs recital. This form of congregational prayer is prevalent in parts of
Rajasthan. It is a major attraction for the lovers of folk songs.
The songs sung during the Ratijagas mostly belong to the saint-poets of the medieval period. These recitals, sung during any religious event, are a thanksgiving to the local deity. The songs are also sung during the planting and harvesting season. They contain the people’s hope for a good harvest, for which the local deities are invoked. These songs, along with providing spiritual solace for the devotees, are also a means of entertainment.
