Rath is a prominent town in
Hamirpur District, on the state highway linking
Mahoba and
Orai. It is 100 km south-west of
Hamirpur.
The early history of the town is vague. But the remains of its glorious past, scattered around the town, reveals that it is a place of great antiquity. It contains several mosques, temples, and tanks adorned with extensive ghats. The prime attraction is Sagar Tal, a lake. Besides, there are ruins of two tombs of the 14th century, fragments of Hindu temples and ruins of two forts of the Bundela Kingdom.
Rath serves as an important mart in the district and deals in grain, cotton and sugar. Weaving, dyeing and saltpeter manufacture are its principal industries.
Rath is linked by road with Orai, Kapli and Hamirpur. Muskira, Sarila and Gohand are its nearby places. Hamirpur Road Railway Station is the nearest railway station.
