The major schools of painting in
Rajasthan, belonging to the medieval period often found their inspiration from various literary works. One of the famed works is the ‘Rasikapriya’ composed by poet Keshava Das (1555-1617). This composition classifies the legendary Heroes and Heroines of India. It deals with their feelings, affections, their separation and reunion and various other situations. These expressions found their way into the paintings. The artists depicted the lovers in their paintings, as narrated by the poet.
