Rani Avantibai was wife of Vikramaditya Singh who was the ruler of Ramgarh State in Central India. The king died without leaving any heir to the throne. The British, who were in control of India at that time, put the province under court administration.
The queen fought a fierce battle against the British in 1857 to win her province back. She was not able to resist the superior strength of the British army for long time. When she realized her failure, she killed herself with her own sword.
