Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary




Located about 4 km from Srirangapatna and 18 km from Mysore, the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for bird watchers.

Situated on the banks of the Cauvery River, it is the nesting and breeding ground for migratory birds such as spoonbills, open bill storks, darters, white ibis, little cormorants, egret, heron, partridge, river tern, stone plougher and snake bird. Flying fox, bonnet macaque, common otter, common mongoose, palm civet and the marsh crocodile are some of the mammals and reptiles found here. Boats are available at the sanctuary for a ride along the river and the islets.

Visiting hours is between 09:00 to 18:00 hrs and June to November is ideal to visit the sanctuary. Accommodation is available at Ranganathittu in three riverside cottages.

Bangalore International Airport (125 km) is the nearest airport and Mysore Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
