Ranganatha Temple at Singavaram

Ranganatha Temple is situated at Singavaram which is just 2.5 km from the Gingee town, in Viluppuram District. This rock cut temple is situated on top of a hill 150 foot high. The temple is also known as Adhi Varaha temple as Lord Vishnu took the varaha avathar at this place. The temple has a 24 foot high idol carved out of a single rock. Evidences reveal that the gopuram and mantapams were constructed by Thubaki Krishnappa Nayak of the Vijayanagar period. The deity of the temple is Sri Ranganatha in a straight reclining posture (sleeping on a serpent). There is a secret passage from the temple to the Gingee Fort. The temple also has rare collections of panchaloha idols.
