Ranakdevi Temple

Ranakdevi Temple, belonging to the 10th century temples, is situated at Wadhwan in Surendranagar District of Gujarat.

This beautifully decorated temple consits of a full fledged Shikhara, a sanctum and a porch. It has sculptured niches on the cardinal offsets with simple design.

The temple is linked with a famous story of Sati Ranakdevi and the great Solanki ruler Siddhraj Jaisinh. Ranakdevi committed Sati at this place to protect her honour, when Siddhraj Jaisinh murdered her husband, Ra Khengar and her two sons.

Wadhwan is located on the banks of Bhogavo River. Two ancient step wells in the town - the Madha Vav (built in 1294) and the Ganga Vav (built in 1169) are fine examples of subterranean architecture, typical of Gujarat.
