Ramdeoji Fair

Ramdeoji Fair, celebrated during Bhadon (a monsoon month), is held near Pokhran in Jaisalmer District of Rajasthan. It is celebrated in honor of the fifteenth century saint, Shri Ramdeoji, a Tomar Rajput. Both Hindus and Muslims worship him. On this occasion, the devotees make offerings of large and small toy horses at the shrine in memory of the saint's love for horses. Teratali Dance is performed by women during this fair. A unique feature of this dance is that it is played in sitting posture. The dancers tie thirteen cymbals on their arms and legs, with swords and pots of water balanced on the head. This dance is inclusive of fast steps.
