Ramdas Jail

Ramdas Jail is one of the important tourist spots at the Golconda Fort in Hyderabad. It is the cell where a saintly person called Ramdas (popularly known as Gopanna) was put in jail, on the ground that he utilized money from the kingdom's revenue in renovating a temple. He was a staunch devotee of Lord Ram and Tehsildar in the court of Sultan Adbul Hassan Tanashah. Legends say the Lord had the money returned thereby absolving His devotee of any crime. Moved by such unflinching devotion, the Sultan released Ramdas and retained him in his position as Tehsildar.
