Ramakrishna Math (math is also spelt mutt) at Yogodyan is an important pilgrimage place in
Kolkata. It was founded by Sri Ramchandra Dutta, a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, in the later years of the 19th century. The mutt is situated in the busy suburban area of Kankurgachi. The room used by Sri Ramakrishna in the mutt is kept as a shrine.
People can take part in daily worships and meditations, and there are opportunities for spiritual discourses, reading of scriptures, and meeting the resident monks of the Ramakrishna Order. Special religious functions are organized on the birth days of Bhagvan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. Shivratri, Kali Puja and Janmashtami are celebrated here. The library and free reading room are open to all who are interested in spiritual studies.
The mutt also organizes programs to care for poor young boys. It offers a study hall, coaching facilities, and meals to poor children.
