Ram Raja Temple is a magnificent shrine situated at
Orchha, in
Tikamgarh District,
Madhya Pradesh. It is considered as the only temple in the country where
Lord Ram is worshipped as Raja (king). It is a palace turned temple with its soaring spires and palatial architecture, one of the most unusual kind in India.
Legend is that the pious King Madhukar Shah brought an idol of Lord Ram from Ayodhya to his capital, which was temporarily installed here while a temple for it (now known as Chaturbhuj Temple) was being built. Later on, it was found that the idol was impossible to move to the new location.
There is a flagstone path which connects Ram Raja Temple with Laxmi Narayan Temple.
Orchha Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
