Raji tribe inhabits areas in
Kumaon,
Pithoragarh District,
Uttarkashi District and
Chamoli District of
Uttaranchal. Some of them are also found in
Uttar Pradesh. They are also known as Vanrawats, meaning forest lords.
The main occupations of these tribes are agriculture and collecting minor forest products. Rajis are experts in making wooden pots, bowls and cutlery.
For their own gods and some adopted Hindu ones, Rajis erect simple open-air altars with prayer flags and cloth swaying in nearby trees.
