A Legend in Indian Cinema



A multi faceted personality, Raj Kapoor is famous as a producer, director, actor, editor, musician, story-teller and a man of many moods. Born on December 14, 1924, as the son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor, he is acknowledged as the patriarch of India's film making industry.

Entering the popular film industry as a clapper-boy in the Bombay Talkies studio, he became a producer, director and actor for his first film, 'Aag,' in 1948. After that he never had to look back. For more than fifteen years, he remained an evergreen hero. Later he launched his own R.K films banner. 'Awaara,' 'Shri 420,' 'Sangam,' and 'Mera Naam Joke'r are some among his famous films. Well known films directed by him are 'Bobby' and 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram.'

Raj Kapoor was the only Indian actor-producer who carved a niche for himself across the continents. He bagged the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema in 1988. Grand prix award and Padma Bhushan are among his other achievements. He passed away in 1988.
